Saint Francis of Assisi (born Giovanni di Pietro di Bernardone, c. 1181–1226) was an Italian Catholic friar and mystic who founded the Franciscan Orders. Renouncing his wealthy background for a life of radical poverty, street preaching, and gospel simplicity, his devotion to the suffering of Jesus Christ, care for the poor, and kinship with all creation reshaped medieval spirituality.

Ignatius Loyola: A Saint Reads the Saints

31 July marks the feast day of Saint Ignatius Loyola (b.1491), the founder of the Society of Jesus (more commonly known as the Jesuits). In a breviary, I was interested to read a passage from the Acts of Saint Ignatius taken down by Luis Gonzalez, which describes the reading habits of the young saint:
